Mr. Oktay Varlıer graduated from Ankara University School of Political Science in 195. He pursued an MSc degree in Vanderbilt University on economic development and another MSc in Manchester University in UK on econometrics. He holds a PhD degree from Ankara University School of Political Science on econometrics.
Mr. Varlıer worked as a specialist and manager at various levels and departments of State Planning Organization between 1967 and 1978. He was the head of State Statistics Institute between 1978-1980. In the same period, he also acted as Chairman National Productivity Centre and held other leadership positions in the public sector. Between 1980-1983, Mr. Varlıer was a faculty member at the Economic Department of Middle East Technical University in Ankara.
From 1983 onwards, Mr. Varlıer held high level positions in the private sector and was the Vice President for Tourism Investments at Alarko Group of Companies between 198-2007. During this period he was President of Belek Tourism Investors Association ( 1990-1995), member of the Board of Turkish Contractor’s Association (1999-2002), President of Turkish Tourism Investors Association (2003-2007), Vice President of Turkish Construction Employers’ Association (2001-2005) and Member of the Board of TUSİAD (2003-2007), among others.
Mr. Varlıer has been Coordinator of Investments and Business development at Martı Hotel Managament Company since 2007.
